Ethernet First Mile (EFM)

EFM is a lower-cost version of BT's leased line service but gives you a tough and reliable high-speed business internet connection, it should not be compaired with FTTC services as it is not contended and has a better SLA available.

But unlike standard leased line, EFM uses existing copper lines (instead of fibre) to connect you to our local exchange. This means it's cheaper and quicker to install than a standard leased line although limted in comparison of bandwidth.

With EFM connections, you'll get internet access speeds ranging from 2Mbps up to 20Mbps, together with most of the benefits of standard Leased Lines.

Like ADSL, the speed an EFM circuit will run at will depend on your distance from the exchange. However, with EFM we can guarantee the minimum speed you will receive. In our trials, we found that most customers receive a faster speed service than we can guarantee.

EFM is also a symmetrical service – meaning that both the upload and the download speed are the same. This is benficial if you are making Internet Telephony calls, using video, or sending / uploading large files to the internet.

Symmetrical speeds of up to 20Mbps

  • Available in 2,5,10,15 and 20Mbps options

  • Utilises the existing copper and fibre infrastructure to minimise installation costs

  • Enhanced SLA options available, choice of back up connection

  • Uncontended connection

  • Supports Virtual Private Networks & Voice over IP

The table below shows typical bandwidth capability from EFM.
